Anyone who is a member of EENA is welcome to attend any committee meeting, whether or not you plan to be an active member of that committee. Please feel free to contact anyone on the list to get involved. Time commitments and involvement are flexible so take a chance! Below is the list of comittees along with their contacts.

Newsletter - THE NEIGHBOR

The newsletter committee writes, edits and designs the quarterly membership newsletter. The newsletter is delivered to every household and business in the Emerson East Neighborhood.

Volunteer opportunities:

  • develop ideas for articles
  • be a newsletter staff photographer
  • write articles
  • help edit the newletter
  • help sell advertising to support the newsletter
  • help deliver the newsletter

Traffic/Transportation
Peter Rafferty – 241-5123

The EENA transportation committee is responsible for addressing and coordinating transportation issues affecting the neighborhood. These transportation issues include – but are not limited to:

  • traffic volumes
  • traffic speeds
  • traffic safety
  • traffic calming, e.g., islands, speed humps, traffic circles
  • intersection traffic control, including stop signs and signal operations
  • parking, including violations or restrictions
  • signing and marking
  • pedestrian accommodations, including sidewalks and crosswalks
  • bicycle accommodations
  • land use or developments that impact traffic
  • intersection or street (re)construction
  • snow, yard waste, trash, or other debris on transportation facilities

The emphasis for the EENA transportation committee is to advocate for safe and efficient transportation for all modes of travel within, through, or adjoining our neighborhood.

Parks and Gardens
Anita Temple –240-9339

This committee helps maintain and improve the Parks & gardens in Demetral Park, traffic medians and near Emerson Elementary.

Goals

  • Encourage participation in clean up days, planting, weeding etc.
  • Continue Earth Day as a neighborhood cleanup day
  • Fundraise for equipment/ supplies etc. by perennial sales
  • Install Bird & Bat Houses at Demetral
  • Improve the appearance & use of Demetral by: better lighting, trash/reycling bins, toddler play structure, rain garden
  • Assist in new playground equipment for the Avenue Apartment complex (Small park on E. Mifflin & 2nd. St. - 1st st.)
  • Continue communication with Parks Department on appearance & upkeep of Demetral park.
  • Set up a “Demetral Park Fund” with EINPC - able to accept tax deductible donations - for specific projects.

Community Development
John Koch – 249-0031

The Community Development Committee will investigate and advise the Council and membership on issues involving the sustainable development of the neighborhood as a place that maintains quality of life, property values, affordable housing, neighborhood-friendly businesses, and a proper mix of residential and commercial land use. It will strive to develop fair, open, orderly, and consistent procedures by which the neighborhood can work with developers, businesses, the city, and other neighborhoods to see that the neighborhood's needs are met to the fullest extent possible in any future development.
